A letter to my Jae

Updated: Aug 8, 2018

To launch The Unicorn Project I opted to write to my niece who celebrates her first birthday today. I chose to celebrate not only her birth, but to celebrate the start of a journey where I hope to touch the lives of many and live out my quest of spreading glitter.

To my trailblazer, today you turn O N E ! Your story and how you have impacted my life surpasses your first anniversary on this earth. I got to know about you, just before Christmas Day 2016 [as you get older, you will appreciate that your entire family LOVES this season – you will love it too]. You grew in your mummy’s tummy all while our love for you grew in our hearts. When we got the message, and pictures to follow on 13 July 2017, I fell in love with you; it’s like you imprinted on me (don’t worry, when you get older, we will watch the Twilight series so you can understand this concept.)

Watching you grow over the past year has been a trip ! Your milestones, no matter how small they seemed to a regular person were BIG for me. Seeing you roll over for the first time, crawl, stand, get the blue ball, clap and sing to your song, watching you smile and hearing your laugh – it has been phenomenal.

You are now getting to know yourself, your surroundings and the camera! I cannot wait to see you grow through your journey.

So to my peanut; you are amazing, destined for greatness, a legend, kind hearted, beautiful, blessed and highly favoured.

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY !

I chose to write about Jae, to convey the message that little things (or people) can have a massive influence on our lives.

After reading this, take thirty seconds to look at your surroundings and internalize all the little things that are affecting you in this very moment. I mean, REALLY think about the effects these little things are having on your life. Whether it is your cup of coffee, your functioning laptop, the bus driver taking you to work/school or even the toddler who seems anxious to get to nursery. These seemingly little things not as small as you think, are they?

Have a sparkly day enjoying the little things or little people in your life and see you in 2 weeks!

-- Your favourite Unicorn
