Personally, I think a great blog post always begins with a question which causes readers to 'pause for a cause'. But honestly speaking, do you consider yourself one ?
If you were to ask a teenager or even a young adult to name a few 'influencers', about 90%* would name someone on social media who has a large following. They would name actors, various artists, famous YouTubers and lets not forget those Instagram models !
Follow up question: If you don't have a large social media following, does that mean you're not an 'influencer' ? The short answer is NO !
Being an influencer is all about causing people (whether 2 or 2000) to do more of something, whether it's good or bad. I think the problem with the word 'influencer' and what is attached to it, is that persons fail to grasp the concept that the little they do in their immediate circle to foster positivity [or negativity] makes them an influencer! Its this one move that causes a tipping point.
Our first ever guest blogger, Kate Popo and I had a chat about this exact thing after her post received some great reviews ! I mean, her following on social media is not the same as Kim K yet so many persons said that her piece moved them to take action, set up The Perfect Date and made a lot of them reflect on actions they were taking or the lack thereof.
Similar to our post 'we are the ones we've been waiting for', YOU DONT HAVE TO LOOK TO FAR TO FIND PEOPLE WHO CAN INFLUENCE YOUR LIFE. The obvious thing here is the type of influence they are having. If they don't help you grow in any area of your life and their influence is all negative, honey you need to let that person go !
I don't know who needed to hear this message, but
Your friends are your biggest influencers!
It's not the Instagram models selling fit tea and eating fruit 24/7 with a slim physique made in an operating room. Its not the famous YouTube makeup artists with their discount codes. I mean, it's not even the celebrities we bash when they don't speak up on certain issues because of their status as an 'influencer'. Now, before you get your panties and boxers in a twist, having a large following and using it positively (or negatively) to get a message across or to start a trend is important; it may not be necessary, but it surely helps. All you need is a sticky message [I would recommend the book 'The Tipping Point' by Malcom Gladwell to see how a simple message can turn into something GLOBAL].
But REALLY think about it - when you're around someone a lot, you supposedly start to look like them, you adopt their mannerisms, their slang even their accents! So before you discount your friends/peers and their status as an influencer, THINK AGAIN !

One more thing...
In December 2018, our post 'The gift of Collaboration' spoke of the book drive we ventured on for the Anse-la-Raye RC Infant School. As mentioned, we exceeded our target and were not able to travel with all of the books when we travelled to Saint Lucia. We have launched a GoFundMe account to help with costs of shipment ! Please donate to the cause HERE ! Thank you *inserts heart emoji*
Have a fab day, and feel free to send some questions my way during our IG takeover !
